Air duct cleaning in hospitals in Panama
Limpieza de Ductería, a technical service of Climatiza, inspects with a camera and cleans the air conditioning ducts of hospitals in Panama, by area and under each facility’s protocol.
Short answer
Limpieza de Ductería, a technical service of Climatiza, provides air conditioning duct inspection and cleaning in hospitals in Panama. The work is done by area and in shifts agreed with the facility’s technical team, and every intervention ends with a report with before and after photos and video.
A hospital brings very different areas together in one building: waiting rooms, consulting rooms, laboratories, operating rooms, kitchens and technical rooms. Air reaches all of them through duct networks that branch by floor and by wing, and not every area can be worked on in the same way or at the same time.
That is why the work starts with an inspection by area and a plan agreed with the facility’s technical team. In critical areas the service does not set the protocol: the hospital does, and the intervention adjusts to it.
Data point: In dust from ventilation grilles and adjacent ducts in health facilities, more than 70% of the samples were contaminated (Chezganova et al., 2021). And in a ward for vulnerable patients, cleaning the ducts from inside the room raised airborne particles and, to a lesser degree, Aspergillus spores for about an hour, while access from outside did not notably change the room’s air (De Waegemaeker et al., 2025). These are one-off studies, which is why access is planned with the client’s protocol.
| Space | What is usually there | What is checked first |
|---|---|---|
| Waiting rooms and circulation | Large returns and visible grilles | Grilles, diffusers and visible dust at the returns |
| Consulting rooms and administrative areas | Branches along corridors and above the ceiling | Access to the sections and the condition of the grilles |
| Clinical laboratories | Their own supply and exhaust networks, depending on the design | Which network serves the area and under which protocol it is worked on |
| Operating rooms and sterile areas | Networks with the facility’s own requirements | Coordinated with the hospital’s protocol, and no work is done without it |
| Hospital pharmacy | An area with conditions defined by the facility | Condition of supply and return, without altering what the area defines |
| Kitchen and dining room | Kitchen exhaust, which is a different service | Kept apart from air ductwork and referred to Climatiza |
| Technical rooms and air handlers | Units that feed several areas | Condensate pan, coil and filters |
01
Camera inspection by area, starting with the ones the facility indicates.
02
Work by shift and by zone so care is not interrupted, with dust containment where it applies.
03
A report per intervention that the facility keeps as a maintenance record.
Critical areas, such as operating rooms, are only worked on under the hospital’s own protocol. The camera inspection first documents the condition of the network, and the intervention is agreed with the facility’s technical team. The service does not set clinical requirements or replace each area’s procedures.

The most reliable sign is a camera inspection by area, because it shows the inside of the network without opening more than needed. A lingering odor, dust on grilles and returns, and repeated complaints in one sector also point to it. There is no single calendar: the interval depends on use. More in how often to clean ducts.
That is not claimed. The EPA states that duct cleaning has never been shown to prevent health problems. What is done is to document the condition of the system, keep it clean and accessible, and leave a record per intervention that the facility keeps with the rest of its maintenance.
