Punta Pacífica is a peninsula of tall residential towers, hotels and medical centers facing the bay, with occupancy that never lets up. One unit often serves many apartments or rooms, and the duct branches climb through several floors. The area is about 4 km by road from the Climatiza office, in an approximate calculation.
With the height, what builds up in one branch does not stay in one place: it spreads along the column of apartments or rooms that the branch serves. On top of Panama’s humidity comes the salt air of the bay, one more factor for the system’s metal parts, as the resource on corrosion near the sea explains.
Data point: At the Tocumen station the mean relative humidity drops to 64.9% in March, the least humid month, and rises to 82.4% in October (ETESA, 1977 to 2010, in Spanish). The EPA recommends keeping indoor air below 60%.
