What is an access door in ductwork and why does it affect maintenance?
Technical article from the resource center.
It is a door or panel in the duct that allows its interior to be inspected and cleaned. Without enough access doors, there are sections that cannot be reached: they cannot be cleaned or verified.
With well-placed access doors, the inspection camera reaches the sections and mechanical cleaning can be done and checked. Without them, the work is limited to what can be reached from the existing points.
They are recorded in the report, with the recommendation to install access doors. This is stated in writing instead of presenting a partial cleaning as complete.
Installing additional access doors allows later interventions to reach more sections and the camera verification to be more complete.
